Discuss Japan Lite

Shiraishi Island is the setting for 'Japan Lite' and is located in Japan's Seto Inland Sea. The island is well-known for the Shiraishi Dance (shown at right), danced by the locals in traditional costume during the yearly "Obon" festival of the dead. The population of the island is around 800. Shiraishi Island is the third in an arpechalago of islands in Okayama prefecture, off Japan's main island of Honshu. Shiraishi is 17km from the mainland and is accessed by ferry from Kasaoka port in Kasaoka city. Shiraishi dance (click to enlarge)

In addition to a handful of minshuku (Japanese-style inns), the island hosts an International Villa where foreign tourists can stay overnight.

The Shiraishi International Villa has it's own webpage where you can see more pictures and make reservations.

Shiraishi Island has a beach and one bar.

Restaurants can be found inside the minshuku but usually require reservations.
